Ebony women have offered interracial relationships a large amount of attention in the last few weeks if think pieces and Ebony Twitter should be thought. First, we lambasted Donald Glover within the audacity of releasing a racially conscious movie while having had kiddies by way of a woman that is white. Then, we changed our tune totally, welcomed self-proclaimed biracial girl Meghan Markle to the fold, and swooned over her wedding up to a white man.
There’s a whole lot of hypocrisy for the reason that shift in tone and acceptance over Black intermarriage that is female the same behavior in Ebony males.
The shift has less related to royalty and money and status in relation to men than it has to do with the way Black women today value ourselves and define ourselves.
Black wedding was important during slavery. Slaves naturally met, fell in love, and wanted to begin families. Since wedding between slaves was unlawful — because they had been considered belongings in the place of people — we “jumped the broom” anyway to show our humanity and our union to ourselves and our maker.
